Why the "Lion Challenge"? Well, in 2010, Perth celebrates 800 years as a Royal Burgh. The foundation of Perth as a Royal Burgh dates back to the King William the Lion charter of 1210. Provost Hulbert marked the 800 day countdown ( on 24th October 2007 ) with a rare appearance of the Royal Burgh Charter awarded to Perth in 1210 by King William the 1st, known as William the Lion, who ruled from 1143 to 1214. The programme of events and activities is being created for all to enjoy and participate in with the focus on a series of themes including our heritage, culture and sport. MCLEANSCOTLAND wish to thank all the people who have assisted us. Special thanks to Gabriella Maltesics of Ramada Jarvis Hotels and to Peter Guthrie of Dewar's World of Whisky.
